In 2019, Flying Fish carried out a mobility analysis consultancy project for the Drechtsteden region. Our goal: to provide quick, affordable, and highly visual insights into local travel times for different modes of transport, without the hundreds of pages usually associated with traditional traffic studies.
What we delivered
We created local travel time maps, visually comparable to the example shown below. These were enhanced with historical mobility information from both public and commercial data sources. The deliverables included:
- Comparative Travel Maps – car, bicycle, and public transport times from the entire region to selected destinations.
- Traffic Flow Visuals – typical traffic patterns per time of day, across the full week.
- Practical Recommendations – data-driven suggestions for improving regional mobility.
Our unique approach
Instead of lengthy reports, our method is to visualize and analyze mobility data quickly, affordably, and accurately. Using Big Data, we turn complex traffic patterns into clear, actionable maps and visuals. This makes it far easier for city governments to understand the current situation and identify opportunities for rapid optimization.
A baseline for water mobility networks
These insights go beyond road traffic. By combining multimodal data, we help authorities evaluate where water mobility can add the most value. Whether planning new ferry lines, improving waterbus integration, or strengthening multimodal connections, our know-how enables cities to:
- Identify bottlenecks in current mobility networks.
- Compare road, bike, public transport, and potential water routes.
- Pinpoint the best opportunities to expand or optimize water mobility.
Ready for smarter mobility planning?
Flying Fish helps cities and regions move beyond thick reports into clear, visual tools that support decision-making. Our expertise in mobility analysis directly supports the design of optimized water mobility networks as part of the wider transport system.
